City of Morgan Hill, CA
Daniel Murphy is believed to be the first person to plant an orchard in the Morgan Hill area. In 1900, south county agriculture was dominated by orchards. By the 1920s the city was well known for its orchard fruit and grapes. Around the 1950s the city began to transform from an agricultural center to a suburban residential community. By late 1973 the population had grown to about 7,000. By 1980 it had increased to about 18,000. In 2008 the population reached over 40,000.
