City of Santa Clara, CA
Santa Clara is near the center of Silicon Valley. It is home to Intel, National Semiconductor, and other high-tech companies which gave Silicon Valley its name. It is also home to Santa Clara University which is the oldest institution of higher learning in California. Santa Clara owns and operates the electric utility Silicon Valley Power whose rates are considerably less than PG:&E. The population of 116,468 makes Santa Clara the ninth most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Santa Clara is named after the Spanish mission established in 1777. Santa Clara was incorporated as a town in 1852.
