| How to reduce your natural gas use and
manage home heating costs this winter: |

- Prevent heated air from leaving your home. To improve energy
efficiency and comfort while reducing heating costs, keep your
fireplace flue closed when not in use. Make sure the caulking around
your windows and door frames is not cracked or seal.
- Inspect your insulation. Proper insulation depth will reduce heat
loss through your home's ceilings and walls.
- Keep your curtains or blonds closed at night to help reduce
heat loss through windows .
- Adjust your thermostat settings. Keep your thermostat set at 68 degrees F
when you're awake at home, and at 55 degrees F or OFF while sleeping or
away from home. Discuss with family members.
- Use portable electric heaters when you need a room heated ford
just a few hours; they warm quickly and efficiently. Do not use
propane or other non-vented heaters indoors.
- Consider replacing old furnaces and appliances with
energy-efficient ones.
- Install a programmable thermostat. You can pre-set the temperature
to efficient levels when you're awake or asleep at home or away.
- Consider increasing monthly utilities payments now to get a head
start on winter heating bills.
