Ralston died in 1870 and the land was transferred to his partner William Sharon. Sharon died in 1885 and the land was transfered to his son-in-law Francis Newlands. Newlands had a vision to build estates surrounding a country club similar to his creation in Chevy Chase, Md. The Burlingame Country Club was organized in 1893.
