Daly City Real Estate

Daly City is the largest city in San Mateo County. The area had been mostly dairy farms prior to 1906, but the earthquake caused many refugees to seek temporary living space in the area. John Daly eventually subdivided his land creating several housing tracts. Fear of annexation by San Francisco and being ignored by San Mateo County started a drive to incorporate. In 1911 the town was incorporated. Daly City remained relatively small until the late 1940s when Henry Doelger created a major district of houses and businesses called Westlake.
Major employers in the city are: 1) Seton Medical Center, 2) City of Daly City, 3) Jefferson Elementary School District, 4) Jefferson High School District, 5) Genesys Telecommunications Laboratory, 6) Cow Palace, 7) St Francis Convalescent Pavilion, 8) Target Stores – Serramonte, 9) Pacific Gas and Electric, 10) Macy’s

Since 2012 most Daly City homes are being sold significantly over list price. However, prices have not climbed as quickly as more expensive areas suggesting that a significant number of home owners are not holding out for high prices.

15 Elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 6 high schools serve Daly City students.

Jefferson Elementary School District serves K-8 except Bayshore, Southern Hills, and Serramonte neighborhoods. Jefferson Union High School District serves 9-12 except the Serramonte neighborhood.
