The Country Club Neighborhood is located in the census-designated area called Loyola outside of the City of Los Altos city limits. In 1904 the Jesuits of Santa Clara University had a plan to build a new university named for their founder, St. Ignatious of Loyola. The university would have been located in the area of the present-day golf course on Country Club Drive. The university was never built in part because of the 1906 earthquake.
